ISM Conditions for Private Music Tuition
Reference to STUDENT in these conditions includes the parent or guardian of a student who is under 18 years old where the context allows.
TUITION will be given in series of 10 lessons per term. Each session will commence as notified by the teacher. NB. the series will not necessarily coincide with school terms.
FEES for each series are to be paid no later than the FIRST lesson of that series.
HOLIDAYS. Lessons will be suspended during school holidays and public holidays; and also during any further period not exceeding 2 weeks in any one series as to which the student gives at least FOUR weeks notice that they will unable to attend for lessons.
LESSONS MISSED through a student’s non-attendance WILL BE CHARGED FOR unless the circumstances, in the teacher’s opinion, warrant a special concession. Lessons may be cancelled by the teacher at any time, but in such an event the teacher shall arrange either to carry the lesson forward to a later date or to refund the appropriate fee.
EXAMINATIONS, COMPETITIONS AND PUBLIC PERFORMANCES: The teacher will not enter the student for any examination or competition without the student’s consent; the student will not enter for a non-statutory examination or competition or perform in public without the permission of the teacher.
NOTICE to discontinue lessons must be given in writing by either party NOT LATER THAN the first lesson of a series to take effect at the end of the series; failure by the student to give such notice will render the student liable for fees for a further series.
WAIVER. No waiver by the teacher of any provision of this agreement shall be deemed to be a waiver of any subsequent breach of that or any other provision, and any forbearance or delay on the part of the teacher in exercising any of the teacher’s rights under this agreement shall not be construed as a waiver of those rights.
VARIATION. No variation of this agreement shall be effective unless made in writing and signed by the student (or parent/guardian if student is under 18) and by the teacher.
EXTRA LESSONS may be given at the teacher’s discretion by prior written agreement with the student (or parent/guardian if student is under 18)
CO-OPERATION. While the teacher will make every reasonable effort to improve the knowledge and ability of the student, the student cannot expect to improve unless they fully co-operate with the teacher and in particular adheres to the practice sessions advised by the teacher.
